Last year we welcomed Christmas by shining the spotlight on the brilliant Beatles 1967 Christmas record, Christmas Time Is Here Again. While none of their other Christmas fan club discs matched 1967 for sheer creativity and humor, 1966’s surpassed it for complete and total weirdness. Of course, one can hardly blame the boys for being in a surreal state of mind on the night of November 25, 1966 (the date of the recording). For the day before marked the first recording session for a new song John Lennon brought in called “Strawberry Fields Forever.” This record, like 1967’s, contains a short song and a series of sketches. We will leave it to you, the listener, to make any sense of it. So sit back and listen to a confusing, yet interesting snippet from a very special time in Beatles history. And Merry Christmas!
