Facepalm Sunday – Newt: Child Labor Laws “Truly Stupid”

Are you kidding me?

Speaking at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, the former House Speaker said his system would be an improvement on current child labor laws, which he called “truly stupid.”

But that’s not all.  Newt, the GOP’s favorite Sooper Genius since about last Tuesday, thinks that poor kids should clean their own schools.

“I tried for years to have a very simple model. These schools should get rid of unionized janitors, have one master janitor, pay local students to take care of the school. The kids would actually do work; they’d have cash; they’d have pride in the schools. They’d begin the process of rising.”

This is about as disturbing as ideas can get.  Apparently taking the same tax dollars and putting them into social programs for lower income families is bad.  But making kids become janitors to earn those same dollars for their families is supposed to be a better idea?

But he debates well.  So there’s that.

So Newt wants to get rid of those “unionized janitors” who work to support their families, send them out to the unemployment lines so he can put those “spoiled” public school kids to work? I wonder…does this include his own grandkids??

“Pappy Newt! Pappy Newt! Our knees hurt, our backs ache and breathing this cleaning stuff makes us feel funny but thank you SO VERY MUCH for teaching us to cherish hardwork! We LOVE you Pappy Newt! You’re the best!”

Ya gotta wonder what mental processes led him to this conclusion.

Thanks for stopping by! I checked out your blog and I must say I am impressed. Rational analysis of American politics is certainly hard to find. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on it.
