The album from which this week’s Bluesday track hails is a unique moment in the history of the blues. In 1968 an attempt was made to revive Muddy Waters’ career by convincing him to re-record some of his most famous songs in a more contemporary format. Acid Rock, to be more specific. The result was Electric Mud. And it either makes you recoil, or you love it dearly. There is no in between. But although the album flopped it remains a curiosity in both sixties music and the blues.
