It’s not often that I get to post one of my favorite songs by an artist and have it be topical. It’s even rarer when the song is a fanciful tale of a rampaging killer plant. But when opportunities present themselves I make it a point to take advantage.
It’s the giant hogweed, an invasive species, and the Department of Environmental Conservation is asking for help locating outbreaks so they can send crews to nip it in the bud.
The agency has a Giant Hogweed Hotline at 845-256-3111 for people to call and report sightings. Callers are asked to provide photos and site information, but avoid touching the plant.
Anyway, here is the one song I know that features the lryic “Heracleum Mantegazzianum.” From a performance in 1972 it is Genesis with “The Return of the Giant Hogweed.”
