Today happens to be my favorite holiday – Independence Day. It also happens that referring to this American holiday as the Fourth of July is a bit of a pet peeve of mine. The Fourth of July is merely a date on the calendar – one you can find in every country, but Independence Day signifies something special. Not every country has an Independence Day, for one thing, and America’s Independence Day marks a turning point in the history of the world.
Though America was conceived in liberty 235 years ago, We the People still need to be on our guard to secure our liberty. While I believe America is still the most free country on earth, there are still policies our government pursues and enforces that are in contrast to the spirit of freedom our Founders envisioned. But the beauty of America is its ability to adapt and evolve in order to create a better tomorrow for our posterity. Happy Independence Day.
