One thing that I enjoy doing is comparing blues remakes to the original recordings. For those who believe that the blues is essentially the same song repeated over in the same style, I present “Traveling Riverside Blues.”
First we have the Robert Johnson (the song’s composer) performing his classic version in 1937.
Next we have Led Zeppelin’s remake of the song from a 1969 BBC radio session. Now, I am not the biggest Led Zeppelin fan in the world. I think that they had their moments early in their career as a Jeff Beck Group clone, but their albums were pretty shaky after Led Zeppelin III. I will give them credit for a great rendition of this song, though.
