Minneapolis Twister & Other News

I knew it was bad yesterday when my ears suddenly popped while I was standing in the kitchen. When I looked out a west facing window, I saw some debris flying in the air but the worst that happened in my neighborhood was we lost power. But the tornado that struck North Minneapolis was not too far from the neighborhoods of Northeast. We were lucky – very lucky.

Meanwhile North Minneapolis is a mess and state and city officials are asking folks to avoid traveling to those parts of the city if possible. MPR has some incredible photos of the damage.

In other Minnesota news, Tim Pawlenty officially announced his candidacy in Iowa. Not exactly the best timing as the tornadoes are headlining the news here in Minnesota (and nobody really cares if he’s running anyways).

    Drae,

Pleased to hear you are well – and Gripweed too I hope. Terrible news about the storms in the states. I hope that’s an end to them.

    Kind regards,

Thank you for the thought. Actually I am a New Englander and the worst we got was a cold rain. But I can see how the Minnesota-heavy content would lead one to assume I lived there. I suppose I should blog more about Boston -maybe start a healthy rivalry? Alas. I’ve been to Minnesota and I have to say that they win that contest hands down.

Thank you for your kind thoughts, Roo. After I posted this I later discovered just how close a call I had as there was terrible damage about a mile from my neighborhood. I hope to post some of those pictures soon.

As for the storms being over – it’s not even officially “tornado season” yet, so there could be a lot more in the coming weeks and months, unfortunately.
