We have a fever. And the only prescription is more firebell.
This week’s song is a rocker from the “White Album” written by John called “Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except Me and My Monkey.” The lyrics are a combination of Lennon wordplay and direct quotes from the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi whom The Beatles had studied with for several months earlier in 1968 (the “come on is such a joy” and “take it easy” parts). Lennon claimed that the title was a reference to the people who were uncomfortable around him and Yoko.
But the beauty of this song is the fact that The Beatles really seem to be enjoying themselves playing together. On an album featuring a large percentage of tracks containing only 1, 2 or 3 Beatles performing at the same time, it stands out as a true group effort. So here are all four Beatles and one very loud firebell playing “Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except Me and My Monkey.”
