Misleading Headline of the Day

Yahoo’s The Upshot blog takes the cake for distortions today with this headline:

Republicans take aim at cost of Obama’s trip to India

Reading the article reveals it is only two republicans, Michele Bachmann and Mike Huckabee, citing these figures, yet the headline would have you think it’s the entire republican party. I’ve tried numerous times to post a comment pointing out this distortion, to no avail. Yahoo seems to be censoring those who are pointing this out as I’ve seen other comments mentioning the fact it’s only two republicans appear on the site, only to disappear moments later. Shameful behavior on the part of Yahoo – for the distortion and the censorship.

Update: These two (Bachmann & Huckabee) are not in leadership positions, and the major right-wing blogs have either said this is not true or have ignored the story, so I’m still confused as to how this can be labelled “Republicans” when it’s only a couple of idiots.

I’m not sure what’s going on at Yahoo. I’ve noticed this censorship trend on other blog posts – usually in their various entertainment sections. As soon as a Yahoo user calls them on their censoring, the comments start showing up. It seems they don’t like people being critical of their posts, but the part that makes this all the more odd is the number of times I’ve reported racist and anti-Semitic comments as abusive. If they have time to censor critical remarks, you’d think they’d have the time to keep abusive, racist comments off their site without posting them first and relying on users to report them.

  3. Every day the so-called journalists writing for The Upshot make some of the most egregious mistakes on the Web. They shouldn’t even pretend to be nonpartisan or unbiased.

I wonder if I’ve seen you posting at Yahoo. Your blog is great, but now I’m nervous you’ll catch all my mistakes! LOL

What is really bothering me with Yahoo these days is the unexplained censoring they’re doing. I’m not sure when this started happening, but based on my observations, and now yours, I have to wonder what the heck is going on over there. Yahoo is going downhill fast.
